One by LeighAnn Kopans - the review

Backstory: I read about this book on this blog, and I really wanted to read the book because it sounded so interesting and awesome and all I wanted from a book! And I asked the author (which I am very very ashamed of) if I could get an ARC, but she couldn't send me anything other than a ecopy, as she is from the US and I live across the ocean. And I will thank, again, through my blog to LeighAnn for being nice enough to send me the book! Thank you!
Before I start, I just want to say that I don't remember the first part of the book too well, so this review might be a bit weird.

One (One Universe, #1)
When having two powers makes you a Super and having none makes you a Normal, having only one makes you a sad half-superpowered freak.

It makes you a One.

Sixteen-year-old Merrin Grey would love to be able to fly – too bad all she can do is hover.

If she could just land an internship at the Biotech Hub, she might finally figure out how to fix herself. She busts her butt in AP Chem and salivates over the Hub’s research on the manifestation of superpowers, all in hopes of boosting her chances.

Then she meets Elias VanDyne, another One, and all her carefully crafted plans fly out the window. Literally. When the two of them touch, their Ones combine to make them fly, and when they’re not soaring over the Nebraska cornfields, they’re busy falling for each other.

Merrin's mad chemistry skills land her a spot on the Hub's internship short list, but as she gets closer to the life she always wanted, she discovers that the Hub’s purpose is more sinister than it has always seemed. Now it’s up to her to decide if it's more important to fly solo, or to save everything - and everyone - she loves.

When I began reading this I had huge huge expectations. And this book is self-published. Don't get me wrong, some self-published books are really good. This one was one of them, but sometimes books that aren't self-published are better, for some reason. This one was really good, but my expectations were too high.
I read about half of it in about 3 days and I just couldn't read anymore and I took a break for about a month. I then picked it up and, because my expectations were really low now, it got SO FUCKING GOOD! Thus my rating.
The main character, Merrin is really a good chemist and that made me fangirl a tiny bit because SCIENCE IS COOL! And she can float. And she can't fly because she has only half of a power. And that the end you know why and IT'S BRILLIANT!
This book was so intelligent! So so smart! Let's say you have a Super who can set themselves on fire. They have two powers, the power of protection from the fire and the power to ignite. And these powers stand by each other and I think that that is a brilliant concept.I would never have thought of that!
There were a few things that bothered me a bit about the book, but I ignored them. I didn't get the thing with Merrin playing the drums. I know it's a stress relief, and I can get why, but it didn't really fit in my mind for some reason. It felt as if the romance between Merrin and Elias was a bit too fast, but that might just be me. I did like the whole thing tho.
The pacing was good. It wasn't too rushed, nor was it too slow. It made me feel all the feels throughout the whole book and I just really really liked it! I was really scared for them in the second half of the book and that part was so damn good!
I really really enjoyed this book. I do recommend it to anyone who likes super heroes or romance or a really good book! Don't get your expectations too high tho, because you might end up not liking it.

I am currently reading from the second book, Two, and I like it so far. I'm not too far into it, but it's really good. I got it as an eARC from the author in exchange of an honest review. And I will review that when I finish it but post it when it comes out, because spoilers.

Here's the cover:

I think it's a really really cool cover and I like it. It's also narrated by Elias and it's really really awesome!

LeighAnn Kopans also has a book coming out this next February and it's called Solving the Ex.

Ashley Price doesn’t have much in life after being bullied so hard she had to leave her old school to live with her aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh. But the camera she borrowed from her best friend and secret crush Brendan, and her off the charts math abilities, make things a lot more bearable. Plus, since Brendan is the captain, making the school Mathletes team should be easy.

But when gorgeous new girl Sofia rolls in and steals Brendan, Ashley's place on the team, and her fragile foothold on the Mansfield Park Prep social totem pole, it’s on. Sofia is everything Ashley left her old school to escape. The only thing Ashley didn’t count on is Sophia’s sexy twin brother Vincent.

Vincent is not only the hottest boy in school, he’s charming, sweet, and he’s got his eye on Ashley. He’s also not taking no for an answer. There's no real reason Ashley shouldn't like Vincent, but with the
battle lines being drawn between her and Sofia, Ashley’s not sure which side he’s on. Or which side she wants him to be on.

She does know Sophia is trouble with a capital T, and she’s determined to make Brendan see it.

SOLVING FOR EX is a YA contemporary romance that remixes Mansfield Park as Clueless meets Mean Girls in a crazy mix of high school society, mathletic competition, and teenage romance.

I hope you liked my review and that you read the book!

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi - the review

I come to you today with a review (well, two, but I didn't write the next one yet)!

---WARNING! This review will contain spoilers, is it is the second book in a trilogy---

Title: Unravel Me
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Country: United States
Language: English
Genre: Dystonia, YA, Romance
Publication date: February 5th, 2013
Pages: 480 pages
Rating: ★★★★★
Unravel Me (Shatter Me, #2)
Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

(Synopsis from Goodreads)

In this book, Juliette has to wake up. She has to stop feeling sorry about herself and she needs to understand that people won't judge her or look at her like a monster, because those people felt the same way when they found out about their powers. And with the help of Kenji, she did wake up. More on that later.
So, I love this book. It was a million times better than the first! It had a really good plot and everything was beautiful about it! Tahereh Mafi has a really really good job with everything. The writing style was really good. If you read the first book, you know that a lot of people complained about the fact that it's mostly written with metaphors. And I agree. It was probably done this way to illustrate Juliette's damaged mind, and the way she imagined the world from her cell. In the second book, however, that was changed to more toned down metaphors. They're not as frequent, and they only appeared in moments where she recollected memories from the cell.
Also, the relationship between Adam and Juliette changed and after she found out about Adam's power, she distanced herself from him. For me, that was a good thing. Because he still treated her like she was a fragile snow flake. She didn't need that. She needed someone who could remind her that she's not alone, she's not the only one with a power. And that person turned out to be somehow Kenji. He figuratively kicked her in the nuts and told her to wake the fuck up! He told her that it's not only her! People won't judge her. They won't get killed just by standing at the same table as them. He was the one who got her away from the Judam (Juliette+Adam) bubble. Because of him, she joined other people in finding supplies and getting them to the Omega Point.
Basically, Adam dragged her down. Later in the book Juliette goes all Hulk on Warner's dad and THAT.WAS.AWESOME! I literally screamed at that part. Not only on that part. When I found out what Warner's power was, and how he hurt Kenji, I screamed and I was all like "YESYESYESYES! I KNEW IT! I.FUCKING.KNEW.IT!!" It was good! They take Warner to the Omega Point and he goes a bit crazy there and hates it, but he kept asking for Juliette, and that was the only reason he cooperated. Ish. That was probably one of the best parts of the book. He was so so adorable and nice. He was better for her and I hope in the third book he doesn't die, and I don't want Juliette to end up with Adam. Because that would be horrible.
Basically, I liked this book a great deal. I can't wait for the next book! I would advise you, if you can, to read the novella, Destroy Me, first because that will help a lot. It's not necessary, but you should, because you will misjudge Warner if you don't, and you'll think he only takes advantage of Juliette. You'll love Warner after it! Probably.

So here ends my review. It's long, it might be all rambling, and no actual reviewing, but I'm sorry.

Goodbye,
E.

Divergent talk.

So, a Divergent teaser trailer was released yesterday at the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show.

That was my exact reaction after seeing it this morning. I actually cried. I wanted it numerous times and I just can't get over the fact that IT'S SO FUCKING AWESOME! Everything is so well put together! I know this isn't the actual trailer and that this is just a teaser but it's just SO FUCKING GOOD! This movie will be EPIC! I just KNOW IT! Like Zack Stentz put it,

As I can see from the teaser, I'm pretty sure they stuck to the book a lot. I'm really happy. I cannot wait to see it. Really! I will wait until a full trailer will be released to have a full opinion on it. I'm really excited for it!
My cast related doubts have left me and I feel a lot better about it! Theo will be a brilliant Four even if the looks don't match the ones in the book. REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THIS MOVIE SO FAR!

Anyways, I'm leaving now.

Goodbye,
E.

I mostly just wanted to let you know about this. I have two reviews and a book haul coming up :D

A to Z book survey

Yet again, I come to you with something borrowed from the Blue-Eyed Bibliophile. It's this kewl survey about books.

Read on!

I  read all 7 Harry Potter books, so J.K. Rowling.

I think one of the best sequels I've ever put my eyes on was Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier. She just made the sequel SOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK! Even the last book is incredibly good!

Nothing in particular, I'm finishing Wasps Nest by Agatha Christie and reading from Divergent, but I haven't settled on something in particular.

I don't usually drink while reading. I would occasionally sip some water.

I prefer both, but I'm starting to tilt toward e-readers now, because I got an iPod about a month ago and I find it waay easier to read on an iPod rather than reading a physical book, but I still love me some physical books!

Cricket. Definitely Cricket. He's so cute and amazing and nice and all that stuff.

The Hunger Games. The first time my best friend told me about them I was like meeh, it probably is rubbish and I will dislike it. Well, that took a strange turn of events. One of the best series I've ever read!

(Not so sure what this means but,) Colin Fischer by Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz

When I was 15 I put my hands on the second Harry Potter book (because that was the only one I owned and I was too lazy to take the first book from the library) and ever since then, I haven't stopped reading, but the moment I started reading The Hunger Games is probably an equally important event in my reading life because until then (which was a year ago) I only read the Harry Potter books, which sounds sad as fuck. (yes, I am a late bloomer)

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have no more feels atm.

Vampire books. 50 Shade of Gray books. Yup.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I believe.

The Ruby Red trilogy, Insurgent, The Fault in Our Stars, UNRAVEL ME!

One. Which has only a row. My books sit in our TV table. I need a bigger space for them...

The Harry Potter books, The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent and Insurgent, etc.

Bed or toilet. Don't judge me. You all the feels from a book you've read:
"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations" -- Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars.

Matched by Ally Condie. That book must DIE!

The Delirium series. I read the first book and I didn't own nor did I want to read the next book right after it.

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, Will Grayson will grayson by John Green and David Levithan, The Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier (I feel like I'm not talking enough about these books)

I'm a fan of so many books that I can't.

Must I really say that ALLEGIANT GETS RELEASED IN TWO MONTHS HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON A CRACKER!

I buy books and the I don't read them and I just stare at them.

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan. It's a lovely book. Really.

Legend by Marie Lu and it should arrive tomorrow, hopefully, or on Monday. The post office wasn't open today because it's a national holiday. I hate living in my country sometimes...

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. Like, very recently. That happened yesterday, and the day before that. And the day before that. Yup. Imagine that!

So that has been it.
I hope you like it.
It took me a shit load of time to do the image thingies in photoshop (well, about 5 minutes. More work on putting them here), but it was all worth it!
I'll be writing a review for Unravel Me when my brain feels less tense. It needs rest...

Goodbye, for now,
E.
